Safety features on Amps

I've got an Alpine amp, and this morning it just wasn't working for the entire journey to work. Checked it when I got there and it was just soaking wet with condensation....

On the way home it still wasn't working but kept coming on for a split second every now and then. Do amps have safety features which stop it frying itself with condensation?

Just being cold I guess, theres no water in the cabin or anywhere. I've seen condensation on the subs themselves loads of times before (the speaker cones, not the box). And it was like this with my old Escort aswell....

I don't know, I always thought it shouldn't get wet at all on the inside. Never get condensation on the seats or dash or anywhere else. Just in the boot, both cars, always condensation on the subs when its been super cold and checked the amp this morning and there was water on that aswell.

I dont think you should be getting this much condensation. i do mobile phone repairs :) and obviously with water you can short out a number of components. id would let the amp stay in nice warm house for 24 hour n hope it still works. look in to why they is so much condensation in your boot, am on my second SI and can honestly say i havent had this problem. also i have had a Alpine V12 amp for over a year.

sorry forgot to add, if you ever suspect anything electrical to have liquid in it. first thing to do is remove the power. take the fuse out from under bonnet. let it dry properly out n try if still works.

your source of condensation could be coming from the spare wheel well. lift up the spare and see if the little plastic bungs are in the holes in the bottom of well. i kept finding the inside of my boot wet and damp sometimes and this was the cause. Hope this helps mate

like p3 boy said check the spare wheel well also check the conition of all your weather strips around your boot also take out your parcel shelf and check that the boot lid is actually making contact with the seals also one to check is your rear lights especially if they are lexus ones!

as for the amp not workin, what it is doing is letting you know the earth lead is workin! condensation is on the out side only so your amp is not dead! you should check all your terminal points! VISUAL INSPECTION ONLY DO NOT TOUCH KEEP YOUR HANDS N FINGERS WELL OUT THE WAY!

if they apper to be wet first thing in the monin that is your problem they could be damp and you will not see that? you will need some lecky electrical cleaner!

both problems need sorting so take your sub and amp out your car till the condensation problem is sorted!
