majorj0nny
would you recomend lowering a GTI? is it worth it ? I have the chance to have a 'cheap' lowering kit for xmas... I think at the budget im looking at I can pretty much just have a g-max (http://www.espdesign.co.uk/esp.storefront/EN/Product/13248) .. I dont want it laying on the floor so I suppose the only one I can have is the 40mm kit ... that still seems rather low to me ? what would this look like with standard 15" gti alloys? would I have problems with speed humps, etc? I know Ive heard things bout g-max being too rough on cars - some seem to hate this and some love it ... is it worth having a g-max kit or just stick to standard? if I was to got for this kit - what else would/should I get to go with this - ie - new/uprated bump stops, new/uprated strut 'plates'? if ya know what I mean ? (i dont .. lol) ...

RyanML
if u dont wanna be on ur ass, the 40mm kit is great, cheaper on ebay tho
Andy_GTi
it was a bit low, but looked good, if you do a -60 just using the lowering springs isn't really enough, you need the proper shocks too
Timmy_GTi
40mm drop is fine on a GTi with standard 15" alloys, altho the alloys look a little swamped by the arches so you might wanna consider getting some bigger wheels once its lowered. I did mine by 35mm and I had to buy some 17" alloys afterwards cos my wheels looked tiny...Easy way to spend £720 anyways. I used Koni suspension kit which was about £300 if I remember right, and its made my handling a lot better. Its a lot stiffer than the standard suspension so I can throw it round bends now.....Not that I do.......... Tim
majorj0nny
I really dont know what to do about this ... I think Im just itching to spend money on the car really - and dont know if lowering is reallly necessary. what I dont want - is to take a car I like the look of already and make it look silly - finding the need to then start spending on larger wheels, etc... I love the 15's its got too - they are in beautiful condition without a single scuff mark from curbing or whatever... I dunno ... what else can I spend like £200 on thats worthwile. ? stuey650
You like the look of it at the moment and don't want to make it look silly- Well in my opinion escorts at standard height do look silly cause there is a huge gap between the top of the tyre and the arch. A 35 or 40mm kit would make you car look alot better and it doesn't cause problems. Take it from me as my last escort was standard height when I got it and then i lowered it by 40mm and it looked so much better that little bit lower. It never once caught a speed hump either. My current escort is lowered 60mm with shocks and its nothing but a nightmare its forever scrapping along speed humps, catching the ground in multistories etc. You won't regret a 40mm drop. majorj0nny
See... I keep thinking this would be cool! .. but then I see examples of peoples cars that have done this.. http://www.rs20004x4.com/test/index.php?showtopic=41374 Im sure they love their cars looking like that - but personally it still seems too low - even at 40mm .. especially on them standard rims ... if I did that I dont wanna feel like I them have to start addressing the wheels to go with it... I still dunno. Im not sure Im after that kind of look ?

basskiddanny
From a straight on side view they can look pretty bad not lowered. But it depends do you want comfort or looks. It looks really good as it is by the way. Here is an RS2k 4x4 on std suspension and it still looks really good imo: And here is my 1.8 Si lowered 35mm Could do with smaller tyres though instead of Mondeo Doughnuts Edited September 26, 2006 by basskiddanny
