Minutes later can't get first or second, then minutes later again box is whining like hell in 5th. Can now get all gears but car is in the street with gearbox oil pissin all over the road. Paulo Posted February 11, 2003 Share Posted February 11, 2003 cracked gearbox casing?? but thats really rare on escorts i think? it would make sense tho.... all the oil drained out would mean dry gears (cogs) and that would lead to whining. Not being able to engage lower gears would be typical of no oil cos the cogs wont "slot in" without lubrication. could either patch it up or get a rebuild i guess.... dont drive and if u have to probs best to take it very slow, for short distances, cos the gears will heat up really quick... i could be wrong about the above so feel free to correct ...
