Insurance hike - adding S/S Exhaust.

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Was planning on having a Mongoose Cat back system fitted for the great price of £285.00, just phoned my Insurance company to check the state of play. Bugger they want an additional £120.75 and increase my excess from £200.00 to £350.00 ARGHHHH. That is total madness my premium for the year is only £310.00 (Fully Comp with protected NCB). Suppose the best course of action is to wait until the policy finishes and find a more sympathetic insurance company. Only problem is I need a new back box now.............rant over.

That does take the mince a bit - remember with myfirst carI wanted to add RS skirts and spats and the numpty at the insurance company since it would look like a Gti or Rs then he would have to insure it as such - lol suffice to say i didnt bother and changed companies sharpish!

Tell them you are adding a stainless exhaust system that does not increase the power of the vehicle, nor do you want the exhaust itself insured additionally. Tell them you are using a stainless steel one as they come with a lifetime guarantee.

None of the above is inaccurate so there shouldln't be a problem now, or if you claim.

i just down graided from gti to ghia and it stayd the same !!! ?( id of fort the chia would be cheeper ?

The same happened to me when I went from a 1.6 escort to a 1.4.

My last Escort was a 1.8 ghia costing £85 a month insurance, then changed to a GTi which I'm paying £100 a month for.

Thanks for all the replies I'm currently insured with Churchill we're the cheapest, at least until I enquired about adding modifications lol. Don't think I'll be renewing with them, bit the bullet and put some Alloys on very strange works out less than the exhaust. An additional £100.00 (for the remaining 10 months) plus the excess raised to £350.00. Can anyone recommend insurance companies/brokers for midly modified cars; Alloys, Exhaust, Coilovers etc?. Alloys in question will post up some pics soon

Third from top of page 100+ Jet, some multi spoke action.

Cheers, Lee.
