Frazer_d
I put my car into the garage to get wheel baering sorted, fuel leak and a small hole in the floor. I went to see the mechanic last night and unfortunatly it need 2 wheel bearings, a wishbone, fuel leak and the whole floor welding/replacing so all the time and effort I have put into it will be wasted untill I can find another Mk6. A bit annoyed but I was planning an Escort with a bigger engine soon anyway so maybe it's a blessing in disguise. Just thought I would tell you guys Fraz
Craig855S
I highly doubt it needs a whole floor.. if u can find someone who will weld it at mates rates then ur in business.

The mechanic I use is a mate. He said that it is a right nick. He said that it doesnt need a new floor but If you weld the hole then sooner or later another one will apear. The salt on the roads the past few months have just eaten my car. I have noticed it on my arches also, I had a tiny little bubble just coming threw, now it's fully blown rust and a patch has appeared on my passenger door that wasn't there before. Time for a change I think, I will just take a couple of weekends and swap everything over that I am keeping ie. ice, dialssprings etc then just break the rest of it. All I need to do now is find a decent Mk6... easier said than done. Fraz
Andy 3i
If i'm honest, thats not that much. Just keep it. Does the car have any sentimental value? Do you think its really going to be cheaper to buy another with possibly the same problems? If you repair this, you know what been done.

Yea true but as I was saying I was thinking about an engine conversion anyway and it would be alot easier with a new car. It kind of does but it wouldn't bother me if I had to swap things over.I am thinking about fixing it but I fancy a Gti. Fraz
wezcort
i have just expericed this problem when my gearbox, clutch, both drive shafts, wishbones and front wheel berings gave up on me.....i loved that escort, but it doing the work which i could have done over the course of a few weekends and about £250, lots of swearing and a ship load of tea....i was gutted but sometimes you just need to know where to draw the line, when i brought that escortit was a state, my plans were to make it look as good as possible but keep it fairly standard (for insurance purposes) i achived that. so when it died it was spotlessly clean...if you have done as much as you wanted to do with the car mybe it is time to move on with no regerts, only if you have the money tho...as i have found out to my horror! if there are still things you want to do, keep it. you will only regert it later.... Without spending alot of cash I have done all that I can with her, in need of a new shell that I can carry on my plans and mould her into what I want, I have seen a white Gti that I can turn into my own Fraz
