KNITERIDER
its on a 1.6 efi engine out of my new mk5 basically on idle the battery light flickers (i was already told this when i bought it) i know its had a new alternator so wondering why its doing this and if its the cause to (sometimes) slightly lumpy idle any ideas? MC_Bob
Check the battery voltage then reply back. Engine off and engine on readings. Edited April 14, 2009 by MC_Bob
KNITERIDER
il have to do it tomorrow as dad has hidden the multi meter and then il stick a reply on, if it wasnt the battery what other things could it be? and would this cause the lumpy idle? as it only seems to happen when the battery light gets brighter, when driving it virtually goes out and you can bairly see it... KNITERIDER
hmm might be or just a dodgy sensor? but would that cause the funny idleing? its fine when its been a hundred yards down the road but when started from cold (only just happned mind) if you give it a rev it can drop and cut out...im confused lol

Disconnect the sensor underneath, I think! and see if its better.

KNITERIDER
no worries, well il test the battery off the car, then test it on the car and see what its kickin out at idle then at idle under load and that will tell me if its something to do with the alternator wont it?
