first car insurance

Recommended Posts

Im just about to start driving and was wondering how much new drivers are paying for their insurance. Also which company you are with and if you its your policy or if your a named driver?

Thanks for any help.

Best go through a mum or dad if possible. Which size of engine is in the car you have/want?

Whats the bet way to get it mega cheap?

In Matt (my brothers) case.

Say we buy the car, put the car in my dads name.

Insure the car with my dad being the policy holder.

Add Matt on as a named driver.

Put the annual milage low, max 5000.

TPF&T

I know that its cheeky, but can that be done?

this practise is known as fronting as is well known in the insurance industry... It's fraud and if you can't prove you are not the main driver you basically have no insurance

Good man, we are paying for it now (Literally!) but few years to come when we have 3/4 NCB and they are still on their parents we will be reaping the benefits :)

Listen to James, he is right here.

If the car is to be Matt's and he will be driving it all the time, then if he is a named driver on your folks policy, its as good as being uninsured, but you have to pay over 1k for the pleasure of being uninsured.

When I started insurance on my own, having my mother on as a named driver brought the premium down significantly, about £300, so that ould be an option, but adding too many drivers to Matt's policy would up the price.

With sites like confused.com, you can try out a number of combinations to see which comes out the cheapest, once you have a winning combination on there, start ringing the specialists with that combination to see how cheap they can get it sorted for, and ask them for advice on what would be the best, they have to do things like that everyday so they might know something you dont to make the policy cheaper

its difficult for youinger drivers, new policys rape them for every penny plus more, but being a named driver can save a good old amount of money - BUT there is the no claims issue to think about.

you could well stay on mums/dads policy for 2 years untill your 19 and find that insurance is more affordable, but you may well loose out on a potential 2 years NCB, as many companies will not take into consideration the fact your a named driver.

its catch 22 in my eyes!
