DVD ripping

right, need a little advice on how to do this.

 

I dont have a working DVD player and dont really want to set up a games console for it.

 

Missus wants Ally mcbeal to watch, so thought I'd rent from Love film. But as I cant watch it, i know there is a way i can rip from disc to laptop, but never done it, so how is it done?

 

any helpers? if it helps, i have nero 9, but want it ripped as a .avi file

You can use dvd decrypter to rip to your computer but it will be in .vob format. If you want to convert it to avi you can use a free program called handbrake, or you can use dvd shrink to copy the ripped vob files onto a blank dvd disc.
