Martin
I am wanting to format an old laptop and reinstall XP Home. It had an OEM copy of XP installed on it. I know the serial number as it is on the dell sticker on the bottom. I have also used Jellybean Key Finder to get the key that was used to install it. I also have an OEM installation disk I read somewhere that OEM keys can only be used once or something along that lines. My question is, When I reinstall XP can I use the key that I got from Jellybean and will I have any problems?
stoo2000
No, you might have to ring Microsoft when you activate but all you have to do is say you reinstalled, or you had a breakdown. And they will give you a new code to type in

Martin
I don't think it's a student key though.
stoo2000
Just tell them the pc broke if they ask, you repaired it, and need to re-install. No problems. and IIRC OEM keys can be activated 3-4 times before you need to ring.
Martin
Would it matter that my OEM disk is one that I found online? I was just going to say I borrowed one from a mate etc.
dutchkev
better off saying yours in playing up, rather than say it was a mates etc
stoo2000
If you have the correct OEM disc, it will not need activating.
