Something good and different could be achieved in one by not bothering to do anything at all and saving the cash for a decent car.

Like a Z4?

It's about the enjoyment of doing it for many people though. I get enjoyment out of tinkering with old cars. Yes I could go and buy a newer, probably better car for the money I've spent, but that's not always what it's about!

Well I would suggest spending it on anything other than a £3 shed.

Lots of booze and cheap women for example.

Oh and this is advice from someone who has been there and done it with about £5k I might aswell have set fire to.

any type of different is good to me , like for example when i had lime green wheels on my car , you'd get the odd person that'd like it , but the rest would hate it , but to me i wouldnt really care , because the less people that like it = less people that'll copy ........

Dare to be different and stand out from the rest i say :D

why does it matter. just let people do what they want to do, no point bitching about it, its not your money there spending, its not your time there wasting. If they get enjoyment out of it, who's to bitch and moan about it. Yes some do try a bit too hard to be different, and it looks cack, but if thats all there budget allows, or they have no tatse, then so be it, they tried, they failed... move on, it aint finished yet...

id agree and disagree with save up and buy a newer car, i have this conversation all the time, I have done alot to my car (and its not finished yet.... ;) ) but i have come from knowing nothing about cars to basically being able to do most things. I learnt so much about cars because of it, Bodywork, re trimming, brakes, suspension, engines, etc etc etc etc so the money i spent on the escort may seem like a waste of money to some, but not to me because of what i have learnt. newer cars are nicer and i will get one soon enough, but i still have fun tinkering with the old stuff :)

Because spending it on booze isn't a waste?

This sums that side of it up perfectly for me. Yes you could go out and buy a newer car or spend it on other things, but that's just missing the point entirely. At the end of the day, modifying cars is a hobby, in exactly the same way as collecting stamps, or having a model railway. It doesn't really make sense in many ways, it's just done for pure enjoyment, nothing more than that. If you worry about wasting money, you're in the wrong game I'm afraid. I've spent no end of money in recent years, but would I change it? Hell no. Will I keep doing it? Of course I will. Yes I may move on to different types of cars, or newer cars, or I may just keep on messing with old Fords, but I do this because I enjoy it. I'd much sooner spend my weekends tinkering with my car than go out on a Fri/Sat night, drink myself blind and wake up feeling like crap the next day. Now that seems a waste if you ask me. There seems to be a few on here with this attitude of it being a total waste of money and my attitude is, if you couldn't see that from the day you started in the world of modifying, then you probably need a trip to Spec Savers.

But anyway, this is all totally unrelated to the topic, so I'll shut up :)
