corley
My escort seems to be overheating at the moment after about 10 minutes of driving. I have checked the fan is working and every time the temperature goes high it turns on, even when I am driving at 70mph it cuts in when i begin to overheat! I don’t think it is the water pump because I have driven the car for up to an hour before and if it was the pump this would have killed the engine by then? I have had people suggest the following:Thermostat - i have chnaged this, no joyHeater control valveHead gasket Does anyone else have any ideas? Cheers,Corley
Craig855S
waterpump.... to keep the tempurature down you could try setting the heaters to max heat and max power, use the vents at the side of the dash and blow all the hot air out the window (so you dont bake yourself) but ideally you want to change the faulty component before driving it again, you may have already terminally damaged the engine Edited September 16, 2010 by Craig855S

Also do you still think water pump even though i was able to drive for up to an hour? woudnt that just melt the engine or something with no water circulating? stoney
Is there a way to check the water pump at all? when the engine is running manually rev the engine and water should come back through the air bleed/ recirculation pipe in to the header tank. ( small top hose) if its not or takes very high revs odds on its an impellar fault on the water pump. Also do you still think water pump even though i was able to drive for up to an hour? woudnt that just melt the engine or something with no water circulating? no depends if the wind /air was keepin the water cool. in the case of incorrect water circulation the temp guage is neither use nor orniment as its only measuring the temp of the water near it not the rest of the engine Thanks for help and suggestion i appreciate it
