Key help

I only have one red key for my mk6 van, It does the doors and ignition. Is this the master?

Where can I get another key cut? Rang my local parts place and they said £50 and it will only do the doors.

you need to get one with a chip in it and get it programmed using your master key it is explained in the ford handbook

as said the red key u have already is the master if u get another normal key cut this will be black key u can then programme yourself expect to pay about 20 pound

With the above comment you have you have to make sure it has a chip inside so don't go down to your local key cutters and get one that is 'ford looking'

Go to Ford's with your red key. They will cut a new key for you and if you ask may come out and programme it into your ECU for you.

can get them off ebay with the chip in them for around £8 blanks so just need to get the key cut

Just phoned Timpsons (local key cutting place) £75!!

will try ford tomorrow or order a blank from ebay.

get a chipped blank from ebay, get your local key place to cut it and program it yourself... theres instructions on here somewhere its chimpanzee levels of easy

The local key cutters round here won't cut chipped keys provided by the customer - they will only cut keys they provide. I guess this is in case they balls them up. Last time I had a key cut by Fords it was £15.

 

I've posted instructions for programming loads of times - insert red key - turn ignition on and wait until red PATS light goes out - turn off and remove key - wait a few seconds until red PATS light comes back on - insert key to be programmed and turn ignition on. Done.

just for furure you should not keep using the red key it is ment to be as a emergency spare and reprogramming only as every time it gets put in ignition it puts pats into reprogram mode was told when i worked for ford that isnt good to keep doing this

Just thought I would update this.

Got a blank key from ebay for about £8, took it to timpsons and they cut it for free!!

Just re programmed it with infro from here.
