To most people, it's a base model Escort with a Mondeo engine in. Regardless of the mileage on the shell or anything, it's lost its originality, it hasn't got an RS badge, so it just isn't worth a lot to most people. It's gutting when you've put all that work, time and money into a car for it to be worthless, but that's modified cars for you.

 

The problem is, someone could build one of similar spec for the money you're asking for yours, or a faster one for less I would think, so that makes yours seem an expensive option.

 

It's a really nice car, don't get me wrong, but there's still very little money in base model MK4 Escorts. If it doesn't have the right badge, most people won't give it a second look.

drop price to £1500 thats all its worth. my zetec lump in my mk3 a higher spec than yours. runnnin 170bhp(ish). and mines the more desiarable mk3 and worth alot more than a mk4... but i still wouldnt try selling mine over £1500. because its a cabriolet... worth nothing just like base models....

 

if you want a real badged car save up and get one..

 

youi might get some mug willing to pay £2000..

 

but considering you can buy a mondeo for £200.. a base model escort for £200

 

set of cossie 4x4 wheels will cost £150 with tyres and the stickers wil cost you £20...

 

and add a few hundred here and there.... and it still wont be that much..

you obviously dont know the meaning of good condition or new prices!

your prices are waaaaaaaaaayyyy off.

my wheels and tyres cost me hundreds, new toyos alone cost me alot, type in new 205 50 15 toyos on ebay to get an idea, plus they have hardly been used and still have 8mm.

and refurbed cossie rims are way more than 150, wakey wakey

the highest serious offer i had was 2300 without the plate but i couldnt take the plate off as the car was sorned so i may have to get it mot'd to get plate off one day.

dont wanna break the car although i would get more that way.

got offered 900 for the bare shell but its too much agro for me, it will sell in time, its a bit of a small market and hard to find someone looking for a mint mk4 in these times, most people need diesels, including me hence why i have just brought a diesel vw.

ps vw peeps seem to act alot more mature than some muppets that come on this site and ruin it, ive been a member here for years as im now 33 and im finding the youngsters are turning what was a sweet site into a site thats full of gobby know it alls that have no clue.

I think his point was that it would be possible to build something of similar spec for much much less. And that's exactly why you've still got it and no one has bought it.

 

It's a lovely car, but you'll never get big money for it. My advice would be to get tax and test on it, take it to some shows with FS signs in the windows and see if you get any interest. That's your best shot.

 

This isn't about people being immature, or bitchy, it's the cold hard facts about car values and the snobbery of the Ford scene. You've made a lovely car, no one would deny that, but without an RS badge, 99% of people don't give a monkey's uncle. They'd sooner buy an RS Turbo, even if it was much higher mileage than your car. You've been around a while, as I have, you should know that that's how the Ford scene works.
