Morette Beam Bulbs

What a funny conversation this has turned out to be, think I just misunderstood why you wanted to use the inner lamps, double full beam sounds sick though.

Indicators behind the upper grill right in the corners, is that legal, that's where mine are? Spoke with a mechanic who said because their not in some sort of bulb holder that MOT might fail here. I know there's measurements for distance apart and stuff but if behind the grill is not ok it's bye bye trumpets. I'll have to get the inners sorted out, I'm not a fan of making adjustments to pass MOT, I like a MOT pass all year round, not just the day of the test.

Yeah, im gonna put 150 watt bulbs into the inner lamps on a breaker switch inside so i can turn them on & off at mt leisure.

Its difficult to get indicators legal unless youve got originals. I wouldnt cut my bumper even if i did have them though as ill change my mind again next week.

Is putting them in the inner lamps legal? If it is which I'm pretty sure I'm gonna replace the inner trumpets with lenses then put a cold feed somewhere else.

Its a very common conversion to put the indicators in the inner lamps. The legality is a mystery to me but as said it very common so it must pass the mot.

Have you got an induction kit? If not fit the stock cold air feed back on as your not gaining anything unless your running sime kind of forced induction or throttle bodies.

No forced induction and yes dual cold air feeds its pretty pointless, more cosmetic I guess. Well i'd fit a cold feed through the lower grill or something, I just have the dreaded situation which is finding inner lenses and then ontop of that removing the bumper again to be able to remove the unit and re-fit......but like I said, I hate having to change stuff to pass an MOT, I like it MOT fit all year round. DE-CAT is a big no no also.

I assume the inner lenses all come with the same type fitment for indicators? DO you know if its the same as the stock ford ones so I dont have to do any nuts wiring to fit a different type of bulb?

Im pretty sure the inners are for indicators anyway because why would the outters have H4 fitment else, ther'd be no point?

Been meaning to get the crystal lenses but I havent managed to find the inner ones, just the 5 3/4 outters so I'm not officially on the hunt for inside lenses to fit indicators too!

Before I post in the wanted do you know of any and what bulb I need?

Thanks mate.

i want to replace my lamps with crystal ones, but only inners i can find are for the escort cosworth/rs2000 morettes and am not sure if these are the same size as the mk6 morettes, they are from randb motorsport and are £60. the inner lamp holders wont fit an indicator bulb so you will have to modify it slightly i think jordan has done this.

Jeeze what a minefield, all I wanna do is fit some road legal indicators! I guess you would have to somehow properly mount the bulb using a stock unit and mergin the two otherwise it would be glue.

Need to figure out a way of fitting some sort of twist and lock bulb holder, so you know what Jordan did? Would love some advice, im banging my head against a brick wall! :nutter:

The morette lamps are usually quite simular accross the products as the outter unit its what fits the car but I assume you've found MK5 lenses considering you mentioned cossie, I have no idea though, you can tell by this thread that im clueless about the whole thing!

Found this when i was fitting my morettes, think it was by a member on here cougaruk, have only copied part for indicators.

Once you check all the light work, its on to the indicators........... I didn't want to use the indicators that came with the set, it would have meant cutting into the bumper, so i had to come up with another solution. I was going to fit indicators behind the grill, but wasn't sure of the legality of doing that, so i turned my attention towards the inner lights, these i knew wouldn't be used much, but would make great indicators. So i removed the lights and set about converting them to indicators, this basically meant using the original indicator sockets, now the hole that was required was larger than any drill bit i had, so i used a cone cutter and carefully made the hole large enough for the indicator bulb to fit, i then turned my attention to the 3 plastic lugs on the holder, and with a shape knife, trimmed 2 of the lugs down, i was then able to get the socket to fit without falling out. The socket was in, but did move a little.......so out with the clear sealer put 4 blobs around the socket, once cured, this kept the socket in place, but if i needed to remove the bulb, all it would need was to cut the sealer. Installed the light back into the unit, and checked them, great they worked, but did look like 2 fried eggs coming towards you. lol

Changed the indicator bulbs from orange to silver.

Much better, i then turned my attention to the light surround, i replaced any rusty clips & screws...and did a dry fit to make sure they would line up with the wing and bonnet, they did ........so on with the spraying.

Checked it out, kinda had the same idea and I still have the stock units so I'll cut them up so I can fabricate a mount for them.

Just need to find some lenses now, saw some in the for sale forum but I need to wait till pay day and I'll get it all sorted.

This is where im stuck now as i want to keep my inner lamps for spot lights & my fogs as fogs.

I'm gonna fabricate something for the indicators for the inner lamps, can do all of that off the car too, got a set of stocks and the lenses I don't even own yet. Gives me time to do it right.

Why don't you put full beam and indicators in inner lamps?

If you could find a small enough bulb or led you could fit them in the inner lenses or fog lights in the same way the side lights fit in the outers and keep all your lights. that probably what i would do if i didn't have the indicators in the bumper.

Fog lights wouldnt be legal I guess because if you need to indicate and your fogs are on MOT people might say that this wouldnt provide a true enough signal.

I cant think of a sitatuation where your full beam would be on as well as indicating so this is most likely the best option, bar using dedicated units.

Having said that, I have no idea.

Ive been thinkIng abour that. I might get some addition side light holders, drill the lower dish of the of the lense and fit the bulb holder in with an amber bulb.
