Having sold my trusty Micra I now have this, I paid £480 for it, drives nice, but clutch pedal is heavy, same owner for last six years, looking forward to spending time (and money) on it.

I personally think the estates can look 10 times better after spending very little money on the appearance shame ford never thought of it might have been better sellers..... Good to see yet another estate on hear ; ) I'm giving mine a break for a while seen as I have swapped insurances & got the vw passat tdi back out of the garage gotta admit the power difference is unreal !! Yet my escorts are hear to stay :)

Going for a full service tomorrow

Just got back from my local Kwik Fit in Wilmslow (yes, I know some people don't like them, but I have always had very good service from them), anyway I had a Full Service @ £145, as according to the service book it's last service was on 2/3/09 on 75000 mls and it's now on 96000.

Recommendations were:

Baffels on way out in back box - £136

Rear brake shoes & drums - £131

O/S/F Disc corroded (inner) - £97 pair

Pads - £72

No history of second timing belt change (one at 38414 mls in 2004)

Jesus christ!!!!

Backbox can be had for pittence brand new (think i paid sub £20 for an escort backbox a while ago at a motor factor) and fitted using one spanner and a bit of a wiggle in less than half an hour on your drive)

Discs AND pads can be bought for less than 40 quid and fitted in less than an hour by yourself, where are you? you got anyone wiling to help you do it?

Hi Guys,

You might think I am a total novice when it come to cars, but I am not, I have had over 30 and a couple of motor bikes.

I have been a Parts Manager for a British Leyland main dealer (Kennings) and a Service Manager for a Car Hire firm. The thing is when I get a new (to me) car I like to get it seviced and a good check over - this can save you money in the long run as if anything need doing or replacing you know what and when do do first, also I have had nothing but good service at my local Kwik Fit, but yes, this time I may have to "shop around".

As for doing it myself - I used to, but due to working hours and winter I don't want to end up with a car on the drive that can't be fixed until tomorrow as I take my youngest son to his work at a farm for 6.00am and I am knackerd in the evening :tired:

Anyway gave it another clean today:
