escort Mk6 2ltr blacktop conversion

Some great info lads, so how come the older converted to digi dials escorts have a somewhat working temp gauge?

cos the "digi dials" bit is being supplied by the older technology wiring

Yeh thats what I figured but it doesnt add up to what the chaps above are talking about, they seem to say there is a different way it natively it should receive its signal and that pre digi dials cars converted to 2.0 with digi dials somehow understands the older signal. I honestly think ive got myself in a mix now.

That kind of ties in with what I was saying. People are using are a mixture of ECUs and digidials from different stages of product development by Ford. There are combinations that work, and combinations that don't.

What you need is someone with working digidials on a 2L conversion to tell you the FINIS code from the label on the dials, and compare it to yours.

Yeh I get you, pretty much what I thought but i'd be surprised if there is a working set of dials because none were made at the same time as any of the 2.0 ECU's that are commonly used.

Cant you just change the temp sensor/sender to that of an older escort one or is there far more too it than that?

I'm pretty sure there's more to it than that as the Escorts with factory digidials don't have a gauge temp sender - they only have one for the ECU.

Where is said sender supposed to be fitted, surely the easiest solution would be to fit it and run it straight to the dials like on the older escorts?

There is categorically a difference between the later after 1998 (digi dials) escorts and the earlier.

I did the same conversion on my old escort, x reg, 1.6 ecu temp gauge, 1.8 ecu temp gauge and finally when the DESK was fitted no temp gauge however on my R reg temp gauge still works.

I would suggest (although not got round to it yet) that the mondeo ecu is too early and therefore doesn't understand the later temperature sender, my first point of call was to change the water temp sender that feeds the dials to one from the older escorts, I cant confirm if it works yet but worth a shot.

"you did the same conversion" think you may need to rephrase that lol.

I wired in your 2.0 ECU and I found the ECU for you, ie, I did the same conversion lol. Ok you helped me with the labelling, I even used my drill, don't get that out very often.

Topics about ECU's, I think I'll get away with this one!
