Mike-evans
Looking at getting some Morettes for my GTi and have some questions...- what sort of price can I expect to pick a set up for?-with using the inner light as cold air feed(s), where do you fix your indicators? Can I see a pic of your Morettes fitted....
JC
Depends on how lucky you are, sets go from £30 to £200... you can still get them new for ~£350? with the cheap ones the lights themselves often corrode and need replacing... I had my indicators behind the grill with a cold air feed, i'll try and find pics on mine for you

If you can pick up a clapped out set of shells and backing plates and refurb them yourself then visit 'boltonbits' on ebay picking up two brand new outter lenses for like £48 IIRC your laughing. You have to fit the indicators in a lens somewhere otherwise its an MOT fail, theres also some other rules regarding distance apart and stuff, dont just cable tie the bulbs to the grill like the previous owner of my car did lol I reckon your best idea with indicators is to fit sidelight 501 mounts into the inner lenses, pretty simple, drill two holes below the main bulb mount (one on each lens) and get some grommets and push fit the 501 mounts, you can recycle all the parts from some mk6 stock lights, then you can still fit inner lenses and have the additional lighting when on full beam. Although I didnt do this it is what I plan at somepoint to do, to but with all the problems I had and MOT approaching I didnt get round to it properly but I still used 501 mounts and sidelight indicator bulbs and grommets like this. http://www.dontcallmeshirley.eclipse.co.uk/phils/phils_pics/mynewcar/lights/IMG_0415.jpg http://www.dontcallmeshirley.eclipse.co.uk/phils/phils_pics/mynewcar/lights/IMG_0422.jpg http://www.dontcallmeshirley.eclipse.co.uk/phils/phils_pics/mynewcar/lights/IMG_0423.jpg http://www.dontcallmeshirley.eclipse.co.uk/phils/phils_pics/mynewcar/lights/IMG_0427.jpg Those are my inner lenses and work a treat, had to leave the old indicator bulbs inline cause of the reduced resistance causes the indicator to flash real quick but you can get a couple resistors to tidy this up. http://www.dontcallmeshirley.eclipse.co.uk/phils/phils_pics/mynewcar/fordfairprep/IMG_1109.JPG Sorry to spam with pics but its an idea. Or use your foglights which is the other great idea too if you really want to fit induction trumpets. Hope this helps somewhat. Mike-evans
Thanks for the info and pics My plan is to fit inner air trumpets, and put the indicators behind fog blanks (with a honeycomb grill pattern in them), will this be ok for the MOT? No big deal in swapping for MOT times, but dont want to create issues with the police whilst out driving etc...
marshy
Mike it should be fine.. Iirc the legal distance is 20 or 22 " apart and 12" from sides of vehicle i cant rememebr which the distance is tbh but i do know its one of them two..On a side note i do have some morette indicators and surrounds for sale ;) lol
Naylor2006
Get some lenses to go behind the fog blanks, bare bulb behind plastic will fail an MOT, also you will get better light from a lens. You could swap your lights before MOT each time but its a bit of a pain but its up to you of course. Why not just fit actual fogs and put em in them, sure you could smoke em a bit if you dont like the colour of the lens?
Mike-evans
I have been thinking of fitting some motorbike indicators behind the blanks, these are the complete housed indicator then... I think the black fog blanks will match the colour scheme of the black air trumpets?

Yeh, motorbike ones will work, you will need to keep your old indicator bulbs inline or get some resistors other wise your indicators will blink like mad. I considered motorbike ones at the time but I was well skint so I just recycled what I had. I forget what ohm's you need, depends also on the resistance of the bike indicators but im pretty sure its the same as a sidelight bulb, 5w LED arent they? If you want I could dig out one of my threads and look it up, or look at the ones still in their packaging in my boot, I really must fit them and tidy up my wiring.
