Cheers all for your help. Dropped it off today and they said it will be done on Wednesday. Don't know why it takes so long as they do a head skimming service whilst you wait!! But their the experts so I can't question I suppose......

What they did say is the locating dowels sometimes snap when they come out "just to make me aware". Didn't think about it till I got back home but these are interchangeable right? lol. I imagine so but I've been reading about how tempremental flywheels are!!

they shouldn't snap they usually either twist out or sometimes they can be drifted out from the back,if they break one yes you can fit another .make sure they are all in before fitting clutch they are important. single mass flywheels(like you have ) are pretty much reliable but the dual mass ones(like on a focus or mondeo )can give trouble :thumb:

just to add, killing a clutch in 10k is pretty bad unless the clutch isn't strong enough or there is some other problem, I know people who have killed them in much less on standard poverty engined escorts though. Thats one of the worst n/a escort flywheel faces I've seen for glazing / burn marks; was the bell housing full of crap from it?

I've put a few pics of the gearbox down and a pic of the new clutch kit; It was the second cheapest kit. I don't know if National is a good make. Pics aren't very good as I ust took them. Also it's the first time I've done a clutch so I don't know if thats any dirtier than usual. But it is preety well caked in dust.

What do you think the other cause could be then? Possibly cheap/bad quality clutches in the past?
