Rs2000 misfire

Hi people, after some help, been working on the RS today as its got a misfire, coil packs are fine, leads are fine all has spark, compression is all good, any help on what it can be ?

dodgy plugs?

Plugs seemed ok, 2,3&4 where covered in black rubbish so cleaned them up and still missed

black soot is overfuelling.lambda sensors?

It could also be the coil pack wiring, it's notorious for breaking down and shorting out causing misifres, etc

 

As you'll have seen, the wiring runs under the coil pack cover, down the side of the head, into a plastic rail along the back of the head and then up to a 3-pin plug on the bulkhead. The insulation breaks down, often in places you can't see. The easiest way to eliminate it is to run new wiring directly from the 3-pin plug to the coil packs without it going through the plastic rail, etc. That's a modification worth doing in any case just so you know it's good.

Thanks Gary, I did wonder this, when you remove the plug for the right hand coil, whilst running, not a lot changes, will investigate and have a look.

Misfire soted!! Thanks Gary! Avoided the loom that Gary was talking about and new plugs he stopped missing! Bring on the conversion over the next few weeks!
