demented
My tank appears to be leaking from a pressed fold of the petrol tank. Not a puncture hole or leaking at a join or seam. Has anyone ever experienced this before or has any idea as to what could of caused it ? http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm213/Demented_09/22ED04DE-AF9A-4AF4-A380-26B9B23B53BF-2604-00000176AD3D3D74_zps7ed4be93.jpg On the photos, it's at the fold indicated by the red line within the circle. Photo is of a tank listed on ebay.
demented
Correction. It doesn't appear to be leaking from the fold, it is leaking from the fold line..
etrebus
Correction. It doesn't appear to be leaking from the fold, it is leaking from the fold line..would guess its metal fatigue from years of flexing ,or the pressing was to sharp ,is it a genuine ford tank or a aftermarket one ? demented
The tank on the car I would assume is genuine.I've only had the car a few months, so don't know its history. The tank shown, is a photo from ebay, which I used to highlight location of the leak. Must admit, the the flat raised area of the base of the tank is quite flexible, so I guess, like you say, over the years, it's eventually wore through. I've never come across a leak of this nature before. As the car was bought as a run around while my other car is off the road, I don't want to be buying a new tank, it's for this reason I enquired as to whether it was a common problem: don't want the same issue to be present on a used tank.
