Banno
Hi Everyone,Just wanted to say a great forum seems very friendly :-)Please could someone give me some advise.I have recently purchased a Mk6 Escort 1.6 finesse 5 door. The rear springs seem very soft especially under acceleration. I would like to replace / upgrade the suspension front and rear and would like to know what you would suggest. Thank you Paul Edited October 8, 2013 by Banno
cherrybeard
Hello mate, I have bilstein B8 shocks and H&R springs all round. Excellent package that gets rid of most of the body roll round corners and feels more responsive than the standard setup. Is a little 'go karty' though and the girlfriend doesn't enjoy the ride so if you need comfort, stiffer springs are not going to help.Plenty of others on here with different setups that can advise you on their opinion. Thank you Cherrybeard,Because this is my first Escort I don't know if that's how they was made lol. Love the car just Passed an MOT with no faults on suspension. Just seems a bit soft even with me and the misses in the car, god only knows if there was 4 or 5 adults in it would be on its ar$e. Thanks Again Paul
cherrybeard
Do you mean soft as in bouncy or wallowy? Not sure what you are used too but my escort handled pretty well 4-5 years ago (normal usage, not flying round corners) but gradually became a bit saggy. Maybe it was just me getting used to the car, gaining confidence and then realising that the standard suspension ain't all that. It is 15 odd yrs old mind you. Saying that, the supra suspension is 24 yrs old and still knocks spots off of the 'uprated' suspension I have on the escort. Not a fair comparison though since the supra was designed for touring, not family trips. Have you had a little check of the suspension, making sure it bounces and travels as it should? Banno
Thanks again Cherrybeard for your reply.Yes seems like it should be better than it is. I had it MOT'd and didn't fail on any suspension parts. I have a photo of a MK6 that is identical to mine and looks a better setup. Maybe this belongs to a forum user????? just need to upload it.Any help is appreciated
lee grout
I have cheap and cheerful G-max springs and dampers. Even this setup massively reduces body roll from standard. Its also a 30/35mm drop (cant remember which ) which looks good but doesnt interfere with 17" alloys.

scottybo
After a while the rear on an escort will start to sag. my old mk6 si suffered from this. i currently use gmax 40mm springs on pi shocks cheap compared to some of the setups guys use on here but a massive improvement over standard
