mk1dub
205's will be streeeeeetched 205's are suited to a 6-6.5" alloy Stick with the 225/40/18's.
sortedford
is that what the european golfs do?
sime73
mine are 8" wide and im running 225's and they aren't the best fit not much protection for your rims whatsoever, as ive seen on numerous occasions
mk1dub
Quite a few on the continent go for the stretched look, but having stretched tyres reduces the effectivness of the tyre massivley. This is what 215/35/18's look like on an 18x9" rim Now fitted with a better profile of 225/40/18 Muchos better handling now and doesn't scrape onto the driveway
sortedford
i dont think that looks bad, itll prob look the same to have 205 on a 8inch rim as that does 215 on a 9inch
mk1dub
You'll find on a site such as mytyres.co.uk that the uncommon tyre sizes such as 215/40/18 and 205/40/18 are actually more expensive than the correct size, which is 225/40/18. I dont know how this fairs with the arches on an Escort but going for an incorrect tyre size will diminish the cars road handling abilities - feel every bump, no flex in the sidewall, rim prone to damage and/or buckling on hard cornering and pot holes, no rim protection! etc..
