JonC
NEW FACTORY OPENS IN WELLINGBOROUGH November 24th, 2004 Cosworth Technology (CT) leads the world in integrated engine solutions – from clean sheet concept engine design through casting, manufacture and vehicle installation, to calibration, on-board diagnostics and electronics. CT’s manufacturing arm moved to Wellingborough almost 20 years ago to machine and assemble the iconic Sierra Cosworth engines and later, the Escort Cosworth. Since then, customers have included Mercedes, Opel, Aston Martin, Audi, and Lamborghini. CT currently has 2 sites on Park Farm Industrial Estate in the town. Winning a new contract in 2003 from J C Bamford Excavators Ltd (JCB) has meant major expansion into a new factory. The building, “Wendel 4†at Ryle Drive, Park Farm, Wellingborough, has taken 12 months to commission, with new tooling from major machinery suppliers, both in the UK and Europe. Cast iron cylinder heads, engine blocks and bedplates for the all-new 4 cylinder, 4.4 litre diesel JCB engine will be machined at the new factory before being shipped to JCB. The Official Opening of “Wendel 4†was performed on Friday 12th November 2004 by Mr John Patterson, Chief Executive of JCB, and was attended by His Worship The Mayor of Wellingborough, Councillor John Bailey and Mrs Bailey, and a party of invited guests. Warren Roberts, Managing Director – Manufacturing, said “We are delighted to be expanding in Wellingborough – winning this major contract, a key part of our diversification strategy, will help secure jobs in the town well into the future.†Looks like cosworth now make JCB engines! that maybe explains all the smoke coming out of the back of most sierra cosworths on the road!
