escort_16v
Ever since putting new alloys on the car the steering has started to wander really badly if I hit a bump the car will pull right and then hit another bump the car will pull left brakes, wishbones and driveshaft all been replaced within last 6 months. I have replaced dogleg alloys with s2 turbo alloys so all ford fitting how would I find out what the offset is? Like I say only happening since changed wheels. The tyres are non directional Goodyears. Would the wheels not being balanced properly cause such a drastic reaction in the steering? Any ideas? Chrissyboy
have u had the car tracked? it may just be tram-lining because of the wider wheels
escort_16v
No havent had it tracked. I went from 185/65/14 to 195/50/15 would the car need tracked for a change like that? It was tracked about 4 months ago when the wishbones were done?
Dave
Its probly always best to get it done anyway mate..I take it your chariots lowered?Ive found from experience that hitting a hefty bump throws the tracking a bit..Its only about 20 quid to get it tracked mate
escort_16v
I take it your chariots lowered? Nope its not but will try and get tracking done to see if that solves the prob.
98gt
Another possible solution is to remove the retaining washer that holds on the brake disc when the wheel is removed. I was getting bad vibrations thru the steering under braking after fitting my alloys and I was told it's a problem Ford also found on the Mondeo when alloys were fitted. It may sound improbable that 1 small washer could make a difference but it cured the vibration on my GT
Twisted
you checked your track rod ends and bottom ball joints
Bryan
I have the same kinda problem with my Orion... I just get used to it. Under heavy braking it heads to the left... sometimes it decides to wobble to the right. I think I need a new driveshaft/wishbone/wheel bearing on the front left though. escort_16v
The outside of two front tyres are wearing very quickly, this is tracking isnt it? and ball joint shows very slight play but nothing to warrant an new one.
Bryan
Mine have worn on the inside of the tyres.... two brand new tyres less than 10,000 miles ago and I have the steering alined when they were put on. It always happens to me.

Probably, not all models would have it, mostly they use a retaining screw or else nothing at all. I had a metal washer and removing it solved my probs.
