escortmk6 Posted December 24, 2007 Share Posted December 24, 2007 Yesterday morning on way to work I was driving along a housing estate. Went up a slight incline and round a slight bend no probs. Then all of a sudden a lump in the road made my car loose grip on the black ice. I had felt the ice earlier going up the hill but managed to control that one. Well this lump caused me to go into an almost sideways skid, basically a drift except no control due to the ice. When I looked to the right of me all I saw was the corner of a blue transit van heading towards me. I crapped myself lol. Well the rear wheels mounted the curb and then smack, the front of the car slammed into the van causing the van to be moved a lorry length down the road. All the usual crap happened, cops, ambulance, insurance details etc. When the police and ambulance arrived they also slid down the road so shows how bad the road was. On inspection of the car, Track control arm snapped (Why wheel is facing other way), Driveshaft bent, Suspension bent, Rad leaking etc. Im classing it as written off!! The most scariest RTA I have ever been in, been in 3 now but this is by far the worst. Not the crash side but the black ice bit. SO PLEASE PEOPLE TAKE CAR WHEN DRIVING!!! escortmk6 Posted December 25, 2007 Author Share Posted December 25, 2007 It is soo difficult to react quickly in those instances, I am thinking of doing one of these advanced driving course where they teach you to control the car in black ice conditions. That fiesta looked pretty wrecked mate, supprised the ambulance didnt wanna go down, but like u said "if you know the road u know why" lol. I was deeply supprised that i had done more damage to the van than the car (both written off), I think that another escort is a must, been with them for too long to say they are sh*t. I think the best car I have had was my triumph acclaim, hit a tree at 30mph, reversed and drove away, tht was a very very slippery road but not black ice. Still im hunting around for another escort, swapping parts about and then scrapping this one. Might sell some parts on though, let me know what you want!! Near horsefields! I was goin to pick my GF up lol, Yer the car can be replaced. Good job it was only £300!! pretty bad one,glad ur ok.Tis why i hate driving in these conditions.Its mad out there Thanks !! Your right it is mad, My uncle was drivin down the M3 in dense fog, people were overtaking him with no lights on at 3pm (nearly dark and baring in mind he was doin 75mph) Total twats on the road aswell.
