Central RSOC at Santa Pod

Right, here's my little report.

 

Well, after setting off down the m6 a short while after 8am, I arrived a little early at the meet point (30mins). First to turn up were Mutley and Charley in the Xr3i, shortly (ish) followed by Trig. After a quick trip to Tescos to stock up on BBQ food and curly wurlys, we set off for the Pod.

 

After getting there we had the task of setting up the tents, rather eventful but still a good laugh. We basically spent a bit of time pissing about not doing much before we went off to watch some of the cars up the strip, a few rather quick Fords as well as a few Hondas taking up the 1/4 mile.

 

Eventually Heavyrightfoot turned up (we had seen Nath but he seemed to be more interested in using his tent as a kite to stop and talk to us ). Trig had been calling and texting Wayne asking where he was at most of the day, before he got a text telling him he had the wrong Wayne

 

Trig, Ian and Stoo all went off their seperate ways to their warm homes and hotels. B@stards. Still, we had the beer tent which soon helped up shred our 5 layer of coats and jumpers lol. I swear that heater has burnt off some of my hair on the left hand side of me head haha. Needless to say, with the early morning, over 3 hours of driving and then the blasting heat, I was shattered, so headed back to the tent. Luckily we all managed to get in our sleeping bags before the heavens opened and it pissed it down for most of the night. For what is basically a sheet of fabric, rain makes a hell of a racket on a tent! Still, i was dry and surprisingly warm with numerous layers of clothing and a sleeping bag keeping me toasty.

 

In the morning I was hoping that it would be sunshine and clear skys, not even close as it was very grey and foggy. Still the rain held off all day.

 

We had not a bad spot for our stand, also a nice turnout of cars. I took a few photos which I will post up soon. From then on in it was pretty much usual show time, looking around the cars and trade stands, picking up a few bargins and the likes.

 

Big thanks to everyone who turned up supporting Evo, also much bigger thanks to Trig for organising Evos first show of 2008, lets hope the attendance continues.

Dan, just to fill you in a bit:

 

When I left Dan, And and Charley, I headed home, another quick stof off at Tesco's to get the frozen food I didnt get earlier in the day, and more burgers to feed Andy and Charley with.

 

Then home, cooked a nice pork chop, mashed potatoes, with a selection of veg. After eating, sat in the living room with the heating on, watching random tv on sky. After getting a bit bored of tv, on came the Wii and we bowled our way into the early hours of the morning, before heading for a nice, warm, comfortable bed.

 

And Dan, bbq burgers, they are not just food, they are an investment.

My Report

 

After a bad start on saturday of not getting my truck back untill 2pm, we decided to load the car on, fill it with bits and set off. We got to Pod about 5:30 where we met at the gates for the tickets. As we drove through the bloke noticed that in my wifes wisdom she had brought the dog with us, to which the bloke on the gates says 'sorry mate, no pets'. I looked at him and explained that we had come 120 miles and it has taken us approx 3 hours to get there. He replied saying 'not my problem, no pets, you will have to go back'. By this point my patience is running low and decided to walk over and see if there is any alternative. In the end we had to unload the car off the truck - leave the dog in it, and park the truck outside the gates.

 

We eventually got inside, and found the small group of us that were camping, big thanks to Danposs and Mutley (sorry I dont know your names) for helping us put the tent up, then we headed off the the beer tent which was more like a sauna. A few beers in there and we headed back off to the cold and damp tent.

 

Racing didnt start till late on Sunday, but we managed to see a couple of hours before we decided to head off home.

 

We decided to set off a bit earlier due to everyone being frozen, well that was the idea till we loaded everything into the back of the car and went to the gates to load it onto the truck, when the truck wouldnt start - after 20 mins of messing with it and getting covered in oil, I managed to bribe the security man to give me a tow in the last attempt to get it started - after 100 yards it luckily burst into life so all was well again - but it took us about 4 hours to get home

 

My and the family really enjoyed the show - was good to put faces to names
