Danny_Zetec
I have bought a hawk kit off ebay for fitting central locking, the one where you get the motors which move the rods/cables in the door. when it comes to attatching the rod from the motor to the cable already in the door, are you supposed to remove the plastic casing from the door lock cable to attatch to the motor? i stripped a bit of the casing off on one of the rear doors to attatch the rod to but this has caused the door to stop locking so i gave the cable a tug and it went so it won't unlock and you can alternate in between the two by tugging the cable but it doesnt work the lock properly now ive took some of the plastic casing off any ideas or help please?? Squiz
Wouldnt it have been easier and maybe cheaper to use standard ford system from a local scrappy ?AFAIR the central locking motor operates the actual lock unit the cable should be independant of this as its solely to unlock the car door from inside. 1pukkadeal
Normally these hawk solonoids have to be connected direct to the rod not any cables ,which is why they normally come with universal mounting brackets, all I can advise you is read the instructions fully as they are never the best hence the price tag
Danny_Zetec
my problem was that i couldn't find the rod in the door, iv no idea where it is! only a newbie to cars lol
escort4x4
yes it can be cheaper to use a original ford loom etc, but that depends on if you have it on your car, if you have a escort mistral like i have, none of this came with it, this also includes fog light loom, so wiring all this in would mean gutting the whole car, which is a nightmare

escort4x4
ur in the same boat as me buddy, im buyin a donor car to transfer everything over, not a easy or cheap job as everything has to come out, to be fitted, only thing id suggest is taking out a complete interior loom to fit it, worst thing is mine is a 5 door, and i wont use after market central locking or electric windows, if you know a gd auto electrician he should be able to help you
Squiz
I have gutted two escorts this week and that means to bars shell internally.I also have a complete internal wiring loom sat on my front room floor and a bedroom full of ghia interior It isnt that bad a job when you get stuck in, took me 6 hours to do one and make sure everything came out without breaking any parts ...Biggest job is ensuring you dont break anything in the process. In reply to changing only the interior loom...Dont expect a 96/97 internal loom to be compatible with a 98 up engine bay loom or fusebox.they are very different
