KNITERIDER
must be something to do with the area, as im 19 with no no claims and i can get reasonable insurance on one. have you tried swapping over your current policy or the comparison websites? KNITERIDER
thats a sh1tter, my mates the same but his is higher than mine can you not be a named driver?
hamspeed
Its not so much that a Cabriolet is considered a high performance car, the insurance group is higher for a number of reasons (mainly because there so bloody easy for your average cnut to break into!!) Your quote should drop somewhat though if you can fit a recognised security system and you are able to keep it in a garage overnight, though your always going to pay higher premiums on soft tops... stoo2000
Cabriolets whilst not any quicker are a higher insurance group, try getting quoted on a 1.6 calypso and see what that comes back as.. Give Adrian Flux (extra 10% discount if you are in the club) & Chris Knott a try too.
bluliz
I've always found the Price compare websites an absolute joke. Apparently to insure my ST170 with Compare the Meerkat with M&S....it would cost a mere £1679.
stoo2000
M&S quoted £3400 for my cabriolet on a compare site haha
TommyT
I'm still getting quotes for my GTi at well over £4,000 (i have 2yrs ncb, never had a claim and drivin for 3 years) Mind you, my GF has a convertible KA and she is 19 and only pays £600 to insure it Cabs are dearer as if you roll it you are more likely to die/get seriously injured >> more chance of them paying out alot of money

Matt86
Comparison websites have never given me better prices either.... surely the way they work is they get some commision anyway so their prices will be a little more?? I was only paying 700 Fully Comp on a Calypso cabby and I was 21 when I took the insurance out. However I have no had an accident and I think it will be back to being sky high! Try LV, they have done me good quotes. Oh and postcode predjudice really is a real thing with insurance....but they have to if they considor an area dodgy. They will lookat stats for crime I guess... If I insured a car for where I am in Worcester it is ok..but a couple of streets down the road and it would be alot higher!
