Stu
as i said from a complete reinstall of XP i have never ever had to do this even if i take a drive from one xp machine and into another.. internal sata or otherwise.... that's pretty irrelevant as he has an issue not really as he shouldnt have to do it in the first place. he may be doing something he shouldnt be in the first place is what i was implying. Just because you've never come across the issue doesn't mean it's not by design though? Lots of info here on dynamics disks and disk groups, may be helpful: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=222189 and http://www2.ntcompatible.com/Cannot_import...isk_t24345.html

eetaylog
For anyone that cares, ive now sorted this problem. heres a screener of the error i got when trying to import the disk... http://www.evo-host.co.uk/getimg/18602.jpg I used a program called testdisk to analyse the disk (system manager could still see it even though i couldnt access it), and i changed the partition structure from primary bootable (dont know why it was set to a bootable disk anyway!?) to just a Primary. Windows now sees it without having to import. so...on to another problem, my other disk has now developed the habit of cometimes having to be CHKDSK'ed when i boot my pc. Any ideas why its doing this all of a sudden, or how to stop it (it doesnt find any errors whenever it performs the check).
