i have no idea what i need to fit my new headunit.

my car is a 1993 Escort Ghia and from what i can see its got old school cables

i removed the old headunit and found these wires (1 and 2)

on my new headunit there is only one connecter (3), there is no slot for pic number one, so what is the grey cable for (1)

next.. how do i go about connecting the two main connecters, they are both completely different and both have a different amount of wires! do i need an adaptor to go onto the main/old car cable (2) and the just connect it straight to my new connecter on my new headunit (3) ?

im hoping its just going to be as easy as going into halfords tomorrow, picking up an adaptor which they will obviously rip me off with the price. and slot the two connecter together; or is it a case of whole new wiring? :nutter:

6x9's are going in the parcel shelf since i dont want to cut the plastic which the 5x7's are. just need to get some bullet/spade adaptor things so i can use the old wiring to connect straight to the 6x9's :)

i have no idea what connecter abriviations are etc so plain language please :P

any links to adaptors would be ace so i know what im looking for tomorrow :)

Your radio has what my old 1995 escort had. Its got an external amp with a 2007 RDS radio. (amp is under the glove box)

You can get it for £22.49 from halfords i think its tht price, i cant find it anywhere on the net, but they deffinitally sell it. Il try and get you the code for it 2moro :)

Scrap that it was 22.49 a few years ago when i bought it.

Im 99% sure its this one you need :)

What you need

speakers all fitted and working now :) sound a lot better than stock (front speakers were made out of some very thin material, which had even split)

and i guess you guys were right.. the front are 12cm speakers not 10cm :P

had to do a bit of modding for them to fit but its all good now :)

adaptor comes tomorrow (got one for £7posted instead of halfords £15-£20) hopefully the headunit will work and the grey cable isnt anything to worry about :P

got my connector from halfords for 15 quid

Thats a pc-2-08-4 tho, which is a normal lead and DOES not look like that picture

I posted the wrong link up then....the lead you have ordered will be wrong im affraid its the same as a pc 2 08 4.

The one you need is a pc9-402

Correct lead

But i think you have ordered a normal ford loom

The £15 wrong lead

The grey cable is the feed for the ford standard amp, the yellow cable is the power for the unit, the plug on the back of your new headunit is the standard ISO plug that 99% of car's uses these day's.

you need the adaptor loom that kicksy posted up, the loom you have ordered I fear will NOT work! It will power up the headunit but you won't get any sound cos the sound is sent through the grey cable and the standard adaptors have a different plug!

As carl said, one plug will power up your H/U but the grey cable does the sound so i expect that wont work, the pictures on the website are one end(the car end) the end that plugs into your headunit is ISO standard so there is no need for halfords to show a picture of that because its a std thing

just tried to fit the headunit and as you have pointed out the grey cable is for the sound :)

the cable i ordered does fit, however it does not have the second attachment for the grey cable :)

ive got it to power up and it finds radio stations and has strong signals but just not sound. so im going to have to buy the adaptor you posted up as well :P

damn i hate electronics :P
