Does it have to be double locked to activate?

I seem to recall the standard only go off if the door or boot is opened,so the standard alarm is pretty useless IMO

needs to be double locked (dead locked) to activate it iirc.

No, its activated when you lock the car.

 

Easy way to try is to lock the car with the window down, lean in and open the car from the inside and the alarm should go off.

 

If you double lock it, then you wont be able to open it from the inside.

i tried that with the door but it didnt work.......the best way that worked for me was to have the bonnet open and get someone to hold down the button on the slam panel,lock the car then release the button.....my alarm went off doing it this way

You should probably have a look at the lock in your door then...
