Finesse_Nix
Is it normal for my 1.6 zetec to run the same whether the MAF is unplugged or plugged in?I don't think so! It runs fine either way!
MikeyRS
You wont notice any difference just unplugging it and plugging it back in at idle You may notice a slightly more resonsive drive when unplugged the MAF is there for a good reason.... Finesse_Nix
Its there for a reason indeed. Car was driven with it and didnt notice that much a difference. Just wanted to know if they are all like it or something else was faulty.

Because its not doing its job, surley if everything was ok with the engine unplugging the maf would stop it running right, surley its there fr a reason? Stu
It should run without the MAF sensor plugged in... If it doesn't then you have other problems.

The MAF metre is there to measure the flow of air, if it isnt connected then the ecu doesnt get a reading from it and thus runs a stored set of calculations / base map which to save the engine is set at slightly rich so the car will use slightly more fuel. In escorts the car will run without the MAF connected.
