Peugeot 106 1.5D

Ok, I'm at the age and experience where insurance starts to go down... So I'm looking at something bigger than the little 106

It will come with 11 months MOT (not long passed, failed first time only on bulbs which were replaced) but no tax (unless the buyer pays extra), currently got a disabled tax disc which I hopefully won't need for much longer! :thumb:

Bodywork wise it could do with TLC... nothing major... dent on the passenger side, scraped front bumper and a damaged drivers door (still works fine)

Needs:

Front discs and pads (they were ok for MOT purposes but they could do with changing)

Wing mirror (drivers side but it may as well be replaced with the door)... it will go back on fine... just looks crap.

Lower arm bushes (new ones included with sale)

Fuel Filter (new one included with sale)

It's a P Reg, 97 showing it's 120k on the steering wheel only really... Everything else seems younger.

It's got Saxo VTS interior (bucket style, very comfy and suitable for long trips) - Door cards aren't fitted yet as they are designed for electric windows and the plan was to change the doors to Saxo White 3 door (direct fit) ones with electric windows already in... But they are included.

Very good tread all around on the tyres.

Engine sounds fine, typical diesel really.

Pulls very well with plenty of low end torque... So if driven correctly it's not exactly slow... But you aren't going to win any races with it.

Returns 70mpg+ on normal roads and even more if driven like a granny on motorways.

It's more than happy at motorway speeds and keeps up with fast lane traffic fine without screaming (like Escorts) :innocent:

Will get some pics when the sun comes out... :nutter:

Would suit a new/young driver perfectly as it's in the same insurance group as 1.4i Escorts (group 5)

or a single person needing a motorway muncher :thumb:

Only wanting a swap as I could do with something bigger... a 1.8TD would be perfect in a larger hatch. 106s aren't designed for people with long legs!

Ideal swap would be a 1.8TD Escort or Mondeo... cash your way for a decent car!

saying that my old w reg 1.6 with 86,000 miles wouldnt get more than 200 miles to a tank :(

it'l be worse mpg i imagine once i do the conversion, and wouldnt mind something lighter ont he pocket for commuting :)

pluss less to replace on the escort, doing 50+ miles a day lowerred 60mm eats things :(

I would! Not sure of it's worth though! (Watch the influx of people saying 0.50p and a packet of Space Raiders!!)

Even if you drove it like it's stolen... You'd get 300miles to half a tank out of these!

£45 would last you 2 weeks at least... more than 3 weeks if you drive it right!

In the past it's done a 250 mile trip on quarter of a tank! (99% motorway @ 60mph)

I'll do some research on it... should be able to get a price from that.

Shouldn't cost much on insurance if you hunt around! I'm paying £600 a year (21, 1y ncb, 1y full licence) via Post Office insurance (Using Fortis)... Think Admiral wanted about £2500 for insurance... Most stupid quote came back at £4500...

  • 3 months later...

Still interested in a swap.

It's just had the fuel filter done (as you probably know from my Facebook status... Not as easy as a petrol fuel filter!)

That has certainly restored some power and economy... :)

Two new tyres (same Barum Brilliantis tires all around now) as one of the rear ones got a screw in it and the other rear tire wall was old and cracked. The older (still a good two or more years worth of daily use tread left... probably still have legal tread left after the tyres become too old and crack.) are now on the back and the new ones on the front.

The lower arms have been replaced with new bushes and ball joints.

Still could do with two new doors for cosmetic reasons only... They work fine but it would look better if sorted.

The drivers CV boot came loose... after many refits it just keeps popping off so it needs a new boot and regreasing (probably do this before sale/swap) Still perfectly drivable.

The cambelt will most likely be replaced before sale/swap (it's not due for another 20k... but if done now it will be ready for another 70k)

The valve clearance will correctly before sale/swap (it's just slightly out causing a little tapping until it warms up... to adjust it's only one screw under the cam cover... simple job!)

And the washer pump will be replaced... it's just died (quite common)... It's lasted since 97!

The brakes will probably be sorted also... they are still MOT legal but I'm personally not keen...

It's currently on 122,000miles but still in daily use so this will increase. Like all Peugeot Diesels... it will easily hit 500,000k if looked after!

That's about it... It's an old car with faults... But takes everything in it's stride with no problems and is dirt cheap to run!

Only reason for sale/swap is that I'm too tall for it! Hence wanting a bigger car! :thumb:

Forgot to mention... update after the pictures were taken.

I removed the faded silver PEUGEOT, 106 and XL badges... They were only stick on type. All the glue residue has been removed with Sticky Stuff Remover so it's like they were not there in the first place.

Looks much better also :thumb:
