I know you can download PS3 software updates on the PC and then transfer it over using a USB stick, but not sure about demos. Try Googling it. Even if your wireless device is in the same room as the router, a wired connection will still be a hell of a lot quicker, and it's obviously more reliable too. There's a limit to the speed a router can effectively transmit wireless signals over any kind of distance. So yes, having a wired connection would be quicker. You can get a kit which allows you to transmit wired router signals through your power sockets in the house. So basically you plug your router into a power supply, then you can use any power supply sockets in the house to connect up your laptop, PlayStation 3, etc. So it saves you having to route cables all around the house and messing about moving your router.
