You need to adjust the power settings mate.

Im assuming a laptop?

In there it will show power saving options for battery & mains use, windows7 will have auto set your pc to conserve power when running from battery alone, plug it in & tell me if it gets brighter?

Its not so much a brightness button your looking for rick but a power saving function, it will be set for battery saving you need it at optimal performance to achieve brightness. As for slow startup im not sure, it should be quicker than xp tbh?

Im running win7 on a dell 1.6mhz netbook here with 1gig ddr2 & 160gig sata drive & its flying? When I disconect fromn the mains the screen indeed dims but if I set the power to run optimal on battery its full brightness.

Do you see the battery button in the bottom right? Right click on that and click on Power options, click on "Balanced" and you can also turn up the brightness either at the bottom or by clicking on "Change Power settings"

My screens are identical to that but without the brightness option :nutter:

How do you screen grab and I'll show you?

You have a button on your keyboard called "prtsc" press that, it will do nothing atm.

Open up paint then use the paste option. An exact copy of your screen will be pasted then save as jpg.

i think you might need to add the laptop functions as it looks like you only have desktop instalation

I installed win7 ultimate just as I did on my desktop pc using the same disc for both, I didnt do a thing different, Win7 is rather clever and installs accordingly to what its being put on you see.
