declaring mods

a mate of mine had an old corolla GT which was lowered 60mm on aftermarket 15" alloys. when he wrote it off, the assesor came out and said that the car was not standard as he stated when took out the policy - he told the assesor the wheels were standard toyota wheels as they had the totoya center caps on them, the fella said they dont loom like standard wheels, and he said, its a D reg car, there not going to be modern, and the fella bought it,

he then asked about the ride height and he mearly said all 4 springs had come out of the mounts due to the accident so it wasnt sitting right, the fella mearly shrugged and walked away!!

in my eyes, unless someone knows about cars, then how is he to know that your escort didnt have those 16" mondeo wheels when you bought them? if your car had had X amount of owners over the years and someone else has put them on, then ignorance could be your friend here and you could just say that there ford wheels that were on the car when you bought it!

Kev it doesnt matter if someone put the mods on before you owned the car, you still have to declare them.

You may not be so lucky and get an assesor who knows a thing or 2 about your car, plus there is nothing stopping an insurance company from checking the origianl specs of the car.

I would not like to crash into a £800,000 veyron and end up having to pay for it just because i didnt declare new lights and the insurer would not pay out.

ok,lets say your 50 year old joe bloggs who buys an escort as a run around for the winter - it has aftermarket wheels on from the previous owner but the senile old fool had no idea - he crashes - are the insurance company gonna canel his claim becuase he has aftermarket wheels? how was he to know there not standard? he eats soup with a fork and wears his trousers backwards!

Thats the old mans problem, not the insurers.

The car should have been advertised with aftermarket wheels and the new buyer notify the insurance company of this.

evrything is declared on mine :thumb: so when the doors fall off adrian flux will be paying for them to be replaced :innocent:

by the looks of it its worth insuring everything mines a heap of rubbish if it get nicked it get nicked i cant claim i cant even afford the excess insurance is a scam nuffin more nuffin less

You need to disclose all your mods to keep your insurance intact, if you get pulled or crash your insurance can be deemed invalid if you havnt declared. Its also not all about you claiming for yourself, it covers you hitting a car such as a porsche which your unlikely to be able to cover the cost yourself. Insrance as a scam well its pushed high due to scams, false claims, wreckless drivers, people leaving accident scenes. It covers you for alsorts of possibilitys you could never dream of paying yourself in the event of a crash.

i crashed my car the other day and had to pay to get it repaired myself as i cannot afford to make a claim and get stung by high premiums next yr also i cant afford to pay more than what im paying now because i have modified my car by changes the green speedo bulbs to blue ( and other things that dont make the slightest bit of difference) but they will charge me rediculous prices for

you would be prosecuted by the police for driving without insurance and recieve 6points and a heavy fine at the very least
