corley
Ok so long story short, I am just about in the position to do a 2ltr swap, and I have a few questions. Is it possible to do the engine swap at home or would the car need sending off to a garage? – I have access to an engine hoist. And can get hold of most other tools if required. Where is the best place to find a 2 ltr? How long approximately does it take to do the conversion? Is it a weekend job or a full week etc? Also is there anyone in the Northamptonshire area willing to help me quite soon with the swap – I am willing to pay for your time and can also put you up for the weekend etc if you are traveling? Cheers,Corley Edited February 16, 2010 by corley

corley
Where is the best place to find a 2 ltr? In a 2.0 Mondeo. I know its in a mondya , but i mean ebay, scrap yard, buy a full Mondeo with all the parts?? I am just concerned about spending most of the day getting an engine form a scrap car to find its bust or the engine is the reason the cars in the scrappy in the first place etc.

stuey650
you say your just about int he position to do a swap, but you havn't got an engine, don't even know where to get one, are asking if you should send it away or do it yourself? Only you can answer that final one, are you mechanically minded? Have you ever done an engine swap before or any mechincal task thats in the slightest complicated? Sid's timing is a tad optomistic for my liking, its quite possible to do in a day but you need to be prepared to have the car off the road at least a couple of days as if you come across one problem, or break something and need to order a part and it will set you back. SteveB
Actually swapping the engine doesn't take long, but the mondeo engine needs the water pump changing, and this means you have to take the belt off and re-time afterwards, change the flywheel, clutch, sump pan and so on, and that's what takes the time. rebellious
Id give yourself a weekend to do it, all the time is taken doing the fiddly things like the waterpump sump and flywheel, alt bracket blah blah. donor car is the best way, mot fail (corrossion) readily available on the 'bay for about £200 sheets make some cash back on that by selling the gearbox, front and rear lights, bumpers and whatever else you can. kevscort15
MMM i think to give yourself as much as you want specially if you buy a donor car then got to remove both engines and do the change ova ,dont 4get u will need gaskets retime the engine etc to covert to escort spec ,dont rush it ,and especially if you aint that mechanically minded, take your time mate if you can
corley
finding it hard to find any 2.0 mondeo's im guessing most of them disaprered due to scrappage scheme or something or just to old. I'll keep an eye on Ebay and autotrader though - anywhere else worth checking?

I have just spoken to GtiSpec, his Mondeo is P reg so will have PATS, but is it still possible to use the engine and get a non pats ECU from a different car or will this not work?
