unlucky, if its loaded like you say its very likely to happen, we had a lad towing a trailor on a motorbike who insisted ALL the weight should be over the axle and then wondered why it bounced...and he was a haulage driver! some weight should be over the ball hitch to stop it lifting up and shaking about, and like you said the engine was int he boot hence the wobble.

i would wonder if you hit someone would you be covered tho, as im sure the towing weight is well over what the van should two. ie our ford smax max tow weight is somewhere around (11-1400) cant remember exactly, the car must be nearing 1500kilo on its own. just a word of caution. :thumb:

Obviously you can not drive with a trailer on the back of your vehicle, have you taken a trailer test, a small tip for you:

if when towing a trailer if it starts to sway, keep the front wheels of your vehicle in a straight line and it will correct itself.

most people when a trailer starts to sway turn there steering wheel violently to try and correct the trailer and vehicle.

(Martin, M.James on Lee's account)

P.S, Glad no one was injured though and the van is fixable. :) (Lee)

thats an unfair comment. in this case a badly loaded trailor was the culprit, but anything from grooves in the road, pot holes or high wind can cause the tail to wag the dog. holding the wheels straight wont always counteract it. the highway code says slow down gradually. most experienced drivers would say accelerate out of it. just holding the wheel tight and hoping for the best is foolish, as when the trailor moves its postion so does the back of the car...if you hold the wheel straight you often go where the trailor is pointing, especially with something heavy like a car on the back which mostlikely outweighed the van, hence my comment on the legality(sp) of the towing weight.

either way glad all are ok :thumb:

Im pretty sure a scooby + trailer is higher than an escorts towing capacity anyway, Not sure about the vans but if anything id say its less than the car?

Fk me, i towed a trailer tent in a mk6 1.4 escort down to newquay once, it seemed alright but wouldnt have wanted a situation like this.

Glad your alright and the scooby is fine.
