Can any one recommend a good tuning shop

I am looking for somewhere to do an itb conversion with Omex ECU and a live mapping session and a bit of head work, on a 130ps 1.8 Zetec. I'm located in Southend, Essex

I'm preferably looking for some where fairly local is there any places that people think are good or places that I should avoid?

Thanks

Or if you want I could advise you on how to do it and map it for you.

That sounds good I'm currently only in the research stage and won't have the money to do everything until November. That sounds like a plan, I am currently looking for a place to do the head work. An seeing if I can find some where a bit cheaper than Burton power to supply the throttle bodies an ECU, an loom. Any help is greatly appreciated. I haven't got my heart set on an Omex ECU if there is a different 1 you would recommend

I would be happy to use that. I am currently thinking of 40mm jenvys Omex or other ECU and a stage 3 head, and possibly a 4-2-1 manifold if its worth it. I currently have a decat an powerflow cat back. I was hopping to archive around 200 bhp ish but more would be good. I'll have around £3000-£3500 to spend in total on these bits. The only thing is I want to stay natruly asparatied. But if you think I would he better off doing something a bit better I will take your advice

Thanks

I can't really help you with a mis-match spec, but if you want me to come up with a spec for a given application I can help you do that. I have a head guy too who charges reasonable rates.

If your target is 200bhp, then you're looking at a complete high compression engine build with forged pistons and steel rods, as well as the ITB's, ecu/loom/mapping, exhaust system and fuel system.

You could probably get away with 180bhp on a standard engine with ported head but you may be pushing it a bit.

200bhp is probably a little ambitious of me with the money I have. Could you help me come up with a spec please. This will be my day to day road car but will get occasional use on track at the odd show, what I want is good acceleration I'm not bothered about going hugely fast really as its gonna be used on the road most of the time, I want to be able to keep up with my mates when out an about but they always out accelerate me, as they all have much more power than me. I don't wanna go for a turbo an I want to stick to a 1.8 zetec as its a bit of a challenge really to get as much power out of the n/a zetec as possible. I already have the mtx75 box as that is a bit lower ratio than the Ib5 and my brakes and suspension are pretty good I just feel I need a bit more power

Sticking with the 1.8 rather than the 2.0 is always going to leave you down in power in comparison with n/a... bit of a waste of time really.

Yeah I know I won't get as much power from a 1.8 ad a 2.0 but I still wanna stick with the 1.8. As I wanna be able to say mg 1.8 escort is faster than my mates 2.0 escort. Lol I will ne doing a 2.0 zetec turbo for my next project in a couple of years

Seems odd to spend 3 and a half grand on a 1.8 engine when you could spend 100 quid on a 2.0, pump 3 and a half grand into that and be noticeably faster! VERY ODD,3 and a half grand to say "I have a fast 1.8" when you could be saying "I have a car thats even faster than a 1.8 escort on bodies"

I think it's a crazy idea, but i'd rather help the chap with a decent spec than watch him burn money on random parts and end up with a dog.

I think I said it before though, save they money and put it towards your turbo engine in the future!

I am now thinking about going for the 2.0 convertion but insurance is the only problum

Right I have had a look around for insurance quotes an I can just about get insured on my car with a 2.0 zetec with all the mods I am planning so I'm gonna go down the 2.0 route. How much more do you recon it will cost to get high compression forged piston forged con rods an arp bolts? I want around 200 break. Not to sure how much I will have to spend in total but if I do the project over a longer time period I should have about £5000 to play with between November and march which I wanna get it all finished by the start of march.

You can do it for less than £5k but it's a lot of work. I think your timescales are unlikely as you'll need a fair chunk of money upfront to get the work done and then you'll play the waiting game.

It may not be my business, but I really do have to question why you'd want to do this? It won't be that fast, you'll get bored with it quickly, and for £5k you can get much better cars. At least if you're going to spend 5k, turbocharge it! It's a similar amount of work!
