Ford mondeo 1.6 performance filter problems

Hello sometimes I drive my friend ford mondeo 1.6 its done 224,500miles! But still going strong.

Anyhow we fitted a k&n awhile ago but the car doesn't like performace air filters. If you put your foot down from stand still of the mark it splutters misfires and then dies if you keep trying. If you drive of normal its fine it wont do it. Also over a certon rev say like around 2000rmp or more it will be fine when foot to the floor or near it.

But if you try floor it or near to it a quick way out of a junction etc. below around 2000rpm the problem kicks in all gears.

The car fully serviced had the lot done. But putting back the old air filter clears the problem up. But it seems strange it dont like performance air filters.

Not a performance air filter then is it :pancake:

Well not when its not running right no.

But there other people with problems like this and wanted to know why a proper answer to the question.

i had a problem like this, but mine was just spluttering inbetween 750-1200rpm on my escort, tbh i think cone air filters are no good, deffo if there cheapo efforts they restrict more air then the original airbox, tell your mate to stick with his original filter and box

a good quality standard air filter is far better that a aftermarket one in my opinion and ford spent thousands/millions on research and development on zetecs so they should know whats best

I'm going back to standard airbox, just bought one to replace cone style filter which ive finally realised just makes more noise on a NA 2.0.

Dont blame you bud,i have just add a 130 spec efi manifold with air pipes and air box(not for performance purposes) just so ive got one as there rockin horse poo to get hold of plus it looks better than the standard black plastic manifold.

I have a feeling that its getting very hot and there isnt a proper cold air feed and rather than spending loads of a cone filter enclosure and cold air feed I might as well go back to what has been designed for the engine and stick a panel filter in.

Plus as ive said else where I want to be able to enjoy the zorst note more!
