PLEASE HELP strange cut-out

I have a escort mk6 1.6 zetec e and have run into a big problem, i was riding one day and all of a sudden it would jerk every now and then almost as it was fuel starvation,so i put new fuel pump in and the problem was still there but getting worse. Then it would start cutting out, and the rev counter jumps irradiculy, if you turn the ignition off and turn it back on without starting the engine its fine the rev counter.I thought it might be the coilpack so replaced that and problem still persists,i thought maybe it was computer box so i got another one and problem still the same, now what i cant understand is the longer i leave the car off the more i can drive before it starts to missfire and jerk and cut_out then the rev counter jumps all over again,almost like problem happens when hot. Please help me. thank you

 

I dont know if this is right but i unplugged icv and engine cuts out and they say if that happens that means its not broken?

if you unplug the idel control valve then it will cut out

 

I would get it diagnosed at a garage

 

If i was a betting man, my money would look at the MAF

I was thinking about MAF,just the rev counter jumping around makes me think its electrical?

I'm with JC and have it diagnosed, jumping rev count is nuts, bad wiring can cause some wierd stuff to happen, when the live wire came out the back of my clock and touched the metal chassis my gauges went nuts.

 

I was gonna say fecked ECU but I assume that's what you mean by computer box.

 

You could drive without the MAF plugged in but it's not recommended but you might find out if it's the MAF.

had a similar problem a few years back ..try the fuel pump relay on the fuse box mine had a dry solder and the problem was very intermittent

Thanks guys will try the suggested out, so if i ride without the maf plugged in and it still happens to do it its not the maf? just one extra thing to cross of that could be problem.I could get my hands on a 2lt maf would that work on the 1.6?

Ok today i was checking all the earths and wires on the loom and would seem whenever i bumped near the coilpack it would cut_out.So further investigation there is a pipe that is under the coilpack thats not to long(i think it connects from head to block, kinda like a breathger pipe) it was pinched and i then cut it small and connected it and problem seems to be sorted i hope.Could that have been the issue????????

What round the back of the inlet manifold to the front of the bottom end?
