Strikey
I noticed my headlights where dull the other day i have changed bulbs fuses even the stalk and no changes. When i have my lights on this setting sidelightshttp://strikeys-pic.com/images/2012/06/27/N9Osm.jpgi get thishttp://strikeys-pic.com/images/2012/06/27/x4KQd.jpgwhen i have them on fullhttp://strikeys-pic.com/images/2012/06/27/ajQGi.jpgi get thishttp://strikeys-pic.com/images/2012/06/27/KiETo.jpgas you may have noticed that the first setting sidelights is brighter than my full lights My question to you is could it be wiring or is it a common problem also instead of paying for an auto electrician is there no electrical diagram or some explained loom for the headlights so i can check the wiring? All help would be really appreciated
hicksy
I wouldnt mind betting its the stalks themselves mate, i had this on my cabby a few years ago. The lights would play silly buggers all the time and when i put some replacement stalks on, the problem went away

I got a set from the scrappy once and they didnt work either, i then fitted a set that was tested and they worked. 99/100 times its the stalks that give the problems

redmex
Right... Hoping this will help ,Obviously its hard to give a solid answer without getting a meter on your car but!!! .. My car headlights only work when ignition is on.. thats "Dip and main beam" So i would rule out your dim dip unit initially.. I have just sidelights when ignition is off.. Thinking logical it sounds poss your dipped headlight relay is naff or you have lost its feed.. Swap the dip relay for main beam and see what happens..? If no luck, buy a cheap meter or test light and follow the power using a haynes diagram until you find the fault. Nothing is strait forward in electrical faults.. Trust me im an electrician Sparkie Edited June 28, 2012 by redmex

redmex
Found my relays tried swapping around as adviced no change although it is very moist and the relays have rusted and gone green not all of them but a good two or threeSounds likely the fault is in relay box if its all rusty and green. You really need to get a auto Electrician in or buy a meter and check where the power stops!. I cant stress enough how much can be learnt by following a few tails with a meter, otherwise you are just shooting in the dark.. No pun intended!Good luck and let us know the results Sparkie
