Hey guys, got my recaro's fitted to my second van today and now the airbag light is flashing... it was fine before and in my first van this didnt happen when I put the recaro's in that. i seen on here that someone had the same problem however I cant find the topic. I have connected the yellow plugs under both seats, however on this van there seems to be a sort of black/red plug also attached to the wiring of the van (this plug wasnt connected to anything on the standard seats either) any info on how to sort this problem would be greatly appreciated :)

Cheers

...and what is wrong when the light is there all the time? Mk5b Escort also seats swapped. Yes, I havent connect the plugs under the seats. I think/thought these are for seat heaters only

Flashing 4 times, its a pretensioner issue.

If its on constantly, in my case, it was the plug at the clock spring at the steering wheel, which had somehow snapped off.

Also, behind the sill trim, near the kick panel there's a white plug with yellow air bag system colours, I guess this plug contains the wires for the pretensioners, worth checking that too, although light would be flashing four time if that was the cause.

I have old-fashioned mechanical pretensioners. So that´s not the case. I checked the whole airbag loom and that should be OK + bought new fuse box. Now my best guess is the airbag module.

And the question is: can I change 94AG 14B056 A1B (rare?) to something else?

If you have yellow plugs under the seats which can be connected to yellow plugs from the seats, I'm confident these yellow plugs are for the seatbelt pretensioners.

The pretensioners work in unison with air bag deployment.

The additional plug under the seat is probably for seats equipped with electric movement control.

As the Air bag light is on permanently, as you say, the fault could lie with the air bag control module.

I believe the only differences to look out for, is to ensure that you don't use a single air bag module when the vehicle has twin air bags fitted.

When twin air bags are fitted, a duel air bag module is also fitted.

If a single air bag module is used, only the one airbag will be deployed.

Using a single air bag module when twin air bags are fitted may also register as an error, as the module can only detect the one air bag.

I refer to a 96/98 model Escort.

The duel air bag module is mounted on the drivers side behind the clocks, behind the dash, earlier models maybe different.

As for the module No's, I have no idea, but if both parts are identical I can't see why not but due to the safety aspect, propably best confirm this with Ford.

Prio to removing and unplugging air bag components, it's recommend to disconnect the battery for at least 30 mins to prevent accidental deployment.
