WelshWizard
I have an Escort Gti and when I bought it it had the common problem with the key/lock where it wouldn't turn to unlock it very well so I bought and had fitted a remote control unit for the central lock and that's been working fine. Problem is while it was locked someone opened it with the key and it set the alarm off and I can't deactivate it as I can't turn the key to unlock the door. I've tried disconnecting the battery for a while but that doesn't do anything. Someone said I need to get a new lock or barrel or something, I'll have a go at fitting it myself but how much of a ball-ache is it to do? Also I don't have the 'red' key, will that be a problem? I'm pretty sure there's a guide on here how to fix this barrell problem. Check the 'how to' forum mate, you might be able to fix it without fwarking around with new locks and stuff. Found it for you http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/in...howtopic=143185

WelshWizard
Just tried it, unfortunately the guide is either incomplete or incorrect, the instructions and pictures just don't match up with what's in my car doors.

Surely you can get your door apart enough to inspect the problem though?
JAMGTI
I think on the ford alarm there is a microswitch on the lock mechanism and a sensor/switch that clips around the lock barrel which is not fitted to the car in the thread. might just need these parts replacing from a scrappie or disconnect the part on the lock barrel so that it doesn't arm if you lock it with the key by mistake. Is this an aftermarket alarm system or the stock ford one that keeps going off? Take it apart and post up some pics if your stuck, someone will spot whats wrong im sure.
