Sorry if this is just me being useless however i've searched and cant find anything.

Is there a guide anywhere of how to get new speaker wire from an amp, into the front doors to power new speakers, as far as i can see at the moment looks like im going to have to start drilling holes?

Cheers

Could you not run them through the same way the original wires go into door?

Or join them up to the original wires?

cant connect them to the old wires as theyre gunna be running off a seperate amp. and the original wires run in through some weird connection and i cant see how i could run any new wire through it

that requires removing the male plug from the door and the female socket from the door jam so the original wires can be removed from the connection pins and the new wires soldered in place (coincidentally if you want quality wire to go with your new quality speakers this is the only real way to go)

Or join them up to the original wires? Whats the point of doing that?

If you do that its entirely pointless using new wiring full stop as the wiring will only be as good a quality as its weakest point which will likely be the old wiring.

Like I mentioned above, If your after the best possible outcome to swapping out the original ford crap paper speakers for some quality ones on a amp then your best bet is removing the original wiring to the female door jam socket and the wiring to the doors male socket before replacing it with your own wiring.

You can unplug the doors wiring harness by twisting the end of the rubber flexi harness cover were it meets the door frame (anti clockwise, roughly a quarter turn)

and by pushing in a couple of clips and twisting you can also push the female socket back into the footwells were you can gain better access to its rear and carefully un-solder the speaker wiring (likewise with the male door plug) so you can connect on with your own wiring from your amp.

its roughly the same method Ive used myself whenever Ive upgraded wiring, speakers or added a amp into the equation

  • 2 weeks later...

When I put some full on audio in my old escort I had 5.25 in factory position running off the factory cable (which is actually quite good large core for speaker cable) and then I added 6,5 inch into custom built mount in the front of the door pockets running from external amps in the boot.

In order to get a cable through the door connectors it is a b*stard: disconnect the wiring plug in the door jam, then take the door off completely, put to one side. find an empty connection hole in the plug in the car body and drill out to fit new OFC cable you've got MAKE SURE IT IS AN EMPTY HOLE!!!!. find the corresponding hole in the door part of the wiring plug and drill out to the same - remember to do 2 ( + and -).

now a bit of contorting and feed the cable from inside the car out of the hole you have drilled in the plug ( a lot of swearing and cursing here, it is probably the most fiddly job you will ever do!) pull through enough cable to reach the far side of the back door (or fuel cap if in 3 door).

bring the door back over to car and place on ground (remember to put duvet or something padded underneath so not to scratch it) and get someone to hold it upright, make sure the door card is off and the weather sheet pulled back and feed cables through the plug in the door and pull the cable through and into the door. feeding it through the bendy rubber is also a b*stard and will take many attempts unless your flukey.

put door back onto car and ensure it lines up properly with lock catch - pull the final bit of cable through and reconnect plugs - fit speaker and trim cable accordingly. the extra cable is to make it easy to pull the cable through whilst it is off the car, you don't want to have the cable pulled back out again whilst your refitting the door - that would just be annoying.

it is a bugger and takes a while but to get the larger core ofc cable through is so worth the effort.

have fun and enjoy your efforts when it's all fitted.
