Andy 3i
So I'm looking at clutches for the car, decided on going updated but there's a choice in sizes. 210mm or 220mm? 17 splines. Apparently it goes off the engine code...either RKC or RDA? I didn't think there was a difference personally? If someone could shed some light in it I'd be grateful
Stu
I'd go for an rs turbo clutch from Ford...
Andy 3i
Me and ford have had a disagreement because of them wronging about me not having a reg or a chassis for parts. Although I have since bought microcat . Went for an updated one of 210mm
Stu
Sounds odd, to deliberately go for the smaller clutch when you've increased your torque/power?...........
Andy 3i
Well I was in debate as to which clutch was required...and apparently I should have fitted 210mm. I wasn't sure how simple it was to change to a 220mm and as it's now my daily I couldn't afford to have it out of action. It's a stage 2 clutch...probably going to wreck another component in the system but it shouldn't slip.
Stu
Oh, aftermarket. I hope you have strong calves.
Andy 3i
Haha, well we will see. A friend of mine has a paddle clutch in his starlet and I've found that to be ok, admittedly I've only driven short distances. The one I went for isn't a paddle purely because of drive ability. The description says it should handle between 25-45% power over standard. So should handle between 144 and 167 bhp, more than adequate for what I need it for. Stu
It's a bit worrying if they advertise clutch performance based on engine power as it's torque clutches care about, not power!
Ahmotorsport
It's a bit worrying if they advertise clutch performance based on engine power as it's torque clutches care about, not power!Everywhere does this now. Even gearbox places. But yes, it is odd.
Andy 3i
Well this is true, but either way I should hope it's more than adequate. Although every inch of me wanted a paddle
Stu
AP 4 paddle and standard cover is great, but a bit OTT for 130 ft-lb!
Andy 3i
Really? I didn't think it was advisable mixing and matching clutch components?
JC
AP do a nice up rated clutch, without going for a 4 paddle
