scottybo
i want to zetec the mk2, but want it to run on carbs whats easiest and cheapest way of doing this? as far as im aware i will need- low pressure fuel pump- inlet manifold- carbs the bit im a little stuck on is how to make the plugs fire, would i have to revert to a distributor system maybe? im trying to avoid shelling out for a standalone management if i can
Stu
Just use the OE ECU. Just hook up every sensor that is still on the engine and you should go be good to go.

Stu
You would need to rig up a TPS for the ECU to have some kind of load input.

Stu
I feel the solution to the problem would manifest itself once you actually have both the carbs/linkage and TPS in hand.
Ahmotorsport
Bike carbs is probably the cheaper option, but it wouldn't be by much. Weber's all the way.

Weber's all the way. got a set of cb900 carbs in my garage. already fitted with nice little mini cone filters lol
bronze4door
i once bought an escort gti running a set of bike carbs on the standard ecu it was no way near as quick as a standard car, (tested on a private test track) all the engine sensors were plugged into the standard loom apart from the inlet manifold side as all that was gone and it wasn't running a throttle possition sensor it had a fuel regulator piped in to reduce the pressure it did run and when i messed with the fuel regulator it seemed to rev up quicker and ne more responsive but there was no way to tell if it was running right or not all the carb bits then got taken off and the rest was sold to Wayne i wanted to try to do as has been suggested above with hooking up a tps to see if i could run it like that and get more power out of it but i have not got round to it as the car is sat dead on my drive
scottybo
all i will need would be the inlet manifold for the carbs and a low pressure pump, i guess i could just have a play with it, theres a rolling road centre literally around the corner from my house so i will probs get it on there for a few runs, if i could get even standard power out of it running on carbs i would be over the moon. it would obvi have no cat and the throttle response would be awesome (hopefully) and lets be honest carbs do sound the shizzle! Stu
Bike carbs are crap on cars, it's hard to jet them. You need SOME kind of load measurement on an ECU, either throttle, manifold pressure, air mass etc., otherwise it won't work properly.
