blacksofstichill
I'm sure it will have an alarm, I think even the most basic of models had them. The siren for the alarm is inside the passenger side rear quarter behind the carpet trim near the strut top......have a look and see if you can find it? demented
Also, if a Ford alarm is installed, there should be a black rubber boooted bonnet switch on the slam panel. With the bonnet raised, pressing the bonnet switch up n down 5, 6 or maybe 10 times, in quick susession will enter the Ford alarm into test mode & then the opening of a door or tailgate will activate a chirp from the alarm horn to confirm correct operation rather than a full horn/siren activation. On some 4 door Fords, especially Escorts, the two rear door are not protected by the Ford alarm & don't activate the interior light. Test mode is exited automatically after a few mins. lee grout
My mk6 lx (1.6) Has an alarm, Im sure all will have one, maybe not before the 90's but defo after. my old 1.3 even had one. Upon renewing my insurance this year, the guy asked if it had an alarm, I said yes, just the factory fitted one. He done a check and found out its actually a Thatcham approved one too. demented
Yeah, from 93/94 onwards, the Ford factory fit system will be a Thatcham Category Two transponder Immobilisers; Ford refer to it as PATs. To be a Categort One system. the siren/horn would have to have battery back to meet the Thatcham criteria.

demented
I meant "Battery Back Up" to meet Cat 1 criteria.Although referring to a Ford Scopio, more info can be found here: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pats.htm

demented
I'll be surprised if the factory alarm has been removed, it's incorporated within the Ford central locking module. Also, I think the bonnet switch can't be disconnect either, as the circuit is some kind of closed loop. If the car doesn't have central locking, it more than likely doesn't have a Ford alarm. Behind the driver side kick panel, looking up towards the dashboard, there should be a module like this: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/280745349927 However, there is a possible it has a similar looking module which only controls the central kicking, (if fitted). landydisco
thanks demented i had a quick look last night and there is no bonnet switch but i have got to check if there is a wiring loom for the switch the car has got central locking and i did an alarm test on it for him the same as on mine if mine is locked on central locking and i unlock boot with key and open it alarm goes off i did this on his and there was nothing and the car is fitted with the led under the clock but obviously dont light up anyway i think maybe removed or built without one or even ford forgot to put alarm in lol
lee grout
If its a 2000 model then I would have an educated guess that it would of had one but has been removed in its lifetime.
demented
As far as I'm aware and how the Ford Alarm operates on my Rs2000, Escort GTI & Si, when the key is turned in the tailgate lock a micro switch is activated which temporarily disables the alarm, so when operating correctly while armed, the alarm should not sound when tailgate is unlocked. Best to roll down a window & lock the car via the passenger door, turning the key only once in one direction, then after a minute or so, reach in through the open window and unlock & open the door from the inside. If an alarm is fitted & active with horn in boot still connected, the horn should sound. Not all Ford alarms flash inficators on activation. The LED under the clock is also used when programming in a new transponder ignition key.
