Daryn1992
what is required to make this run in a 1.6 2000 reg escort? I have replaced the 1.6 engine with the full rs1800 engine & inlet manifold which is the metal one with Ho on the back. I have a feeling this won't plug straight into my existing car wiring? SLEEMAN
i think you just need to plug in the inlet manifold wiring loom as your 1.6 has the plastic inlet manifold. not sure about the ecu though but i'm sure a few wires may need swapping
Mex
There are a few subtle differences between the engine-side loom on with the cast manifold and the plastic manifold in your car. IIRC the TPS, air temp sensor, air bypass valve and possibibly the injectors. This can be solved fairly easily with a little rewiring but the HO inlet will do little on it's own and the 1.6 head flows so poorly that it's not really worth the effort. If the car is one you intend to keep and spend money on then I'd recommend getting a 2.0 conversion rather than try to get more performance out of the 1.6 You can use the HO manifold on with the 2.0 then. SLEEMAN
mex sorry to ruin it but he's replaced the engine with an rs1800 engine, but his car has the original 1.6 wiring loom in. so in order for it to work correctly what is needed, just the swap of the inlet loom and maybe other bits of wiring
scottybo
Just the injector wires. Otherwise the rest plugs right in. I have done the same conversion
Daryn1992
Managed to get the car running however its running extremely roughly - sounding like a subaru. The revs are going up and down between 500 & 1500 rpm non stop. Can anyone post a pic of their cast efi manifold and where each breather connects etc please? Also could running on my old 1.6 ecu cause this ? Thanks
SLEEMAN
i would presume the ecu is messing with the fuelling probably under fuelling it
scottybo
Yes running the 1.6 ecu will deffo cause these issues. Mine did the exact same before swapping to a more suitable ecu
Daryn1992
Scotty, any idea which ECU will be suitable for this engine? The car is a 2000 reg 5 door and origional engine was 1.6 so not sure how its set up with the pats system etc? ThanksDaryn
scottybo
The best ecu would be an early escort xr3i 130 spec. The EASIEST and the one i use. Is a mk1 mondeo pre pats 115 'blob' ecu. Follow the guide for fitting a mondeo ecu. Takes about fifteen minutes to install and then all is well in the world!Check my build thread. Mine started as an x reg 1.6 finnesse
