Recommended Posts

Ok im down the scrappy on sunday morning notice nice orion mk5 ghia si 130bhp. look at the rear DISCS. I think not very often you see them. rear beam same as mk6. no problem so remove the discs calipers and hubs. so get them all home tidy them up and repaint them. tonight get home from work got new handbrake cable off rs2k mk6 as mk6 and mk5 are different. unbolt everythink remove drums cable hoses etc. get the new hub go to put it against the rear beam and Shite the holes dont line bloodly up. So now im down the scrap yard first thing to get a mk5 bean to fit tommorow night. So just as a warning to you all dont do the same as me. Will have them on by weekend even if it kills me

Never mind m8 at least you´re having a go... It is possible to fabricate an adaptor plate (http://www.fiestaprojects.com/braking.html, see ´Rear Disc conversion - installation´) that´ll allow the hub to fit your beam but the wheels will apparently sit 10mm further out each side. But if you can get the mk5 beam that´s all your problems solved.

What about ABS ???

My Rs2000 is 2wd and has drums at the back and discs at the front, however it has ABS on all 4 corners, the same as late Escort GTi/Si´s. HOWEVER the MK5 or Mk5b RS2000 didnt have ABS at the back, only at the front. The MK6 Escort Mexico (Andy D), LX and Csi cars are lesser models and didnt have ABS at all. so doing the brake conversion will be ok.

You might find that playing with the ABS could account for an MOT failure or even void insurance if you have a smash and they say, tell me sonny why have you got RS2000 discs on the back of your car ????

In my opinion I would spend the money or large front discs and decent caplipers that will actually stop the car better than spending the money on something that looks nice but in all respects will prob hinder braking performance due to the lack of ABS at the back of the car once the MK5 beam is fitted.

Sorry to rain on the idea, but I personally dont think its practical with cars that have 4 wheel ABS.
